It was with great sadness and emotion that we learned of the death of President Jean Waline.
An eminent jurist, Jean Waline was the first president of the University of Strasbourg III. On his retirement, he was appointed Professor Emeritus at the Robert Schuman University in Strasbourg. President Waline also held
political responsibilities in the Bas-Rhin General Council. A great humanist and friend of René Cassin, President Jean Waline was present at his side from the creation of the International Institute of Human Rights in 1969.
As a member of the Board of Directors of the International Institute for Human Rights, he was its President from 2005 to 2011 and led major scientific projects within our institution.
Commander of the Legion of Honour, the Order of Merit and the Palmes Académiques, President Jean Waline was appreciated by all. We lose a faithful friend.
