Every year, during the summer session, the René Cassin Foundation – International Institute of Human Rights organizes three tests for the Diploma in International and Comparative Human Rights Law. Created in 1971, this diploma of excellence has been awarded to 218 candidates representing 69 countries.

The diploma tests can be taken in French or English, and take place over several days. They are organized as follows:

• A 5-hour written examination on a dissertation topic of the candidate’s choice. Candidates may choose to write on a subject related to the specific topic of the session, or on a general subject relating to international and comparative human rights law.

• A practical case presented during a one-hour oral on a subject chosen at random by the candidate. Candidates have 24 hours to prepare.

• A 30-minute oral, for which the candidate has two hours’ preparation time.

Candidates must obtain a minimum of 12/20 in each test to obtain the diploma.
