Death of Chairman Jean Waline
It was with great sadness and emotion that we learned of the death
of President Jean Waline. An eminent jurist and Associate Professor of Law, Jean Waline was the first President of
the University of Strasbourg III. On his retirement, he was appointed Professor Emeritus at Strasbourg’s Robert Schuman University. President Waline also held political office on the Bas-Rhin General Council. A great humanist and friend of René Cassin, President Jean Waline was at his side from the creation of the International Institute of Human Rights in 1969. A member of the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Human Rights, he served as Chairman from 2005 to 2011, and spearheaded a number of major scientific projects within our institution. Commander of the Légion d’Honneur, the Mérite and the Palmes Académiques, President Jean Waline was appreciated by all. We lose a faithful friend.
