René Cassin pleading competition

Every year, the René Cassin Foundation – International Institute of Human Rights is pleased to sponsor the “René Cassin European Human Rights Competition” organized by the René Cassin Competition Association.

The competition is the oldest French-language pleading competition on European human rights law. It welcomes 30 to 40 teams from Europe and Canada, and enables students from all over the world to compete on the basis of a fictitious case brought before the European Court of Human Rights.

The competition is also supported by the University of Strasbourg and the Strasbourg Bar Association. To find out more, or to contact the organizing team, please visit their website:  René CASSIN Competition.

Human Rights Competition – Regards d’enfants

For several years now, the René Cassin Foundation has been pleased to be associated with the Human Rights Competition organized by the Association Regards d’enfants. Each year, teams of children and young people are invited to express their creativity through themes linked to human rights. The René Cassin Foundation joins the Jury and offers days of participative activities to the winning classes on its premises in Strasbourg.

In 2023

The 2023 edition of the Regards d’enfants competition invited participants to imagine the garden of human rights. Whether philosophical, botanical or virtual, these gardens stimulated the creativity and imagination of the youngest participants, and inspired us with their inventiveness. The René Cassin Foundation, represented by its Deputy Director Valérie Baud-Candau, its Program Manager Arthur Quattrochi and its Project Manager Timothée Perrin, was able to play a full part in the jury, chaired by Mr Engelberg, Ambassador of Luxembourg, and headed by Frédérique Neau-Dufour, President of the Association Regards d’enfants.

On June 15, 2023, the Chaires d’excellence René Cassin then drew up and proposed a diversified program to welcome the winners of the Competition’s Honorary Prize, the Collège épiscopal Saint Etienne class. Participatory discussions on the rights and duties of children, a film screening, a theatrical improvisation scene, an ice-cream break, artistic expression on cultural exchanges with refugee children and a presentation of the “Ambassadors for Human Rights” diploma were all part of the program for this wonderful day spent in their company.

In 2022

On May 6, 2022, Valérie Baud-Candau also took part in the Jury for the “Dis-moi les droits de l’homme” competition organized by the Regards d’enfants association and chaired by Rector Olivier Faron.

On November 29, 2022, the Lycée André Siegfried in Haguenau (Bas-Rhin, France), as a prizewinner, was able to take advantage of a day of meetings and workshops on the Foundation’s premises in Strasbourg, on the theme of “children’s rights around the world”.
